Tips for Building a Great Team Frequently we hear why are those guys so good, they always win? There isn't any magic it's called Leadership. Think back to your elementary, junior high school and high school days, was there one team that always seemed to win? It may have been your school and then again it may have been your rival. What is their secret to consistently win; it's embarrassing to keep losing to them! I guarantee you the winning team had a great leadership team that everyone understood and believed in, providing motivation, experience, enthusiasm, training, training and more training. Training is the key to success regardless of what your goals are, poor training will guarantee you poor results. Successful leaders understand that it requires every member of the team to understand and follow their plan for success. One person cannot win alone; it takes a team that understands the importance of working together. You have to be intelligent when deciding what each member's responsibility will be. This can only be done properly if you understand the personalities, strengths and weakness of everyone involved. I suggest that you place members in positions that you are confident they are comfortable in or enjoy. Example's being I wouldn't put a person that loves working with data and numbers in a customer service position or a person loaded with energy and personality receiving materials in the warehouse. I personally desire a team that support the plan but also desire them to understand I am always open to suggestions at the appropriate time. A true leader will be willing to listen while the boss insists on immediate obedience without question, there is a major difference. So I ask you whom would you desire to work with, the leader or the boss? I personally would desire to work with someone that will accept suggestions from the team as they are the ones closest to the issue. An intelligent leader understands what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow, appreciating insight from everyone on their team. You have the option of the associates you employ; do you want robots or innovative intelligent team members? If you desire to build a group of team players be smart, hire the ones that impressed you and give them an opportunity to share their ideas. They may have the greatest innovative suggestion you have ever heard. Train your entire organization as a Team; never put individuals on a pedestal as no one can be consistently successful without support of others and that is called teamwork.
